Bali vs Gili islands. My family with 2 kids (9, 6 yrs) are in Bali for 10 days in end May and are staying 3 nights each in Ubud and Seminyak. I was initially planning to stay 3 nights in Gili meno but am having second thoughts now given the travel time.

People were scouring to get off the island. I don't know the status of that right now. I spent three nights in Gili T in April, I didn't like it much, it was much more party than I enjoy. I visited Lembongan three years ago and I think it is much more relaxed, albeit I only visited Gili T which I think is the most busy one of the Gilis.
You can see turtles right off the beach on Gili Meno, but I don't know about about Nusa Penida. I don't think I'd swim out to those statues with kids that young - prob better to take a boat (not that you're going there anyway). Sorry about the incorrect info - apparently the name was superimposed on a Bali map that hadn't loaded correctly.
Nusa Penida by contrast is a little more involved to get to, but nor difficult. But they just don't have the same infrastructure (yet) for tourism (and that's why we loved it). The roads are absolutely shocking. I'd read how bad they were before going and have ridden a scooter over some pretty atrocious roads in Indonesia.
Nusa Penida is better for adventuring and checking out insane scenery. Whereas Nusa Lembongan is where you’ll find more shops, restaurants, bars, resorts and general facilities to help your visit run smoothly. So, if you want to get back to nature then Penida is king. But for touristy fun with more facilities then Lembongan is your one.
